Clarify the What and Identify Your Why


Clearly Defining your Big Picture Goal is crucial for igniting the motivation needed for the process of achieving your Goal.


When you set clear and specific goals, you engage your brain's neurology in a way that enhances focus, intent and determination.


Think of your goal as a fully lit sports stadium guiding your journey, providing clear direction for all your actions.



The more complete your picture is of the stadium (i.e. where, how big, fans attending) the easier it will be for you to know exactly what you need to do to get there.


Precisely defining what you want to achieve will also keep you from wandering off the path to your goal and in doing so shorten the overall journey.


To truly maximize motivation, it is also important to deep dive into the "WHY" behind your goal.


Understanding the deeper reasons for your pursuit of THE Goal transforms it from a mere wish to a powerful driving force.


When you align your goals with your core values and strongest interests, you also open up access to the Zone—and levels of performance that can transform your journey.


Helpful Hint: Ignite Daily Passion



Igniting daily passion is about focusing on your Process and not just your Destination/Result.


Unlike result-oriented Goals that focus solely on long-term outcomes, Process Goals keep you engaged with daily tasks.


Imagine each day as an opportunity to overcome small, daily challenges.


Overcoming these mini challenges helps build your self-belief, keeps your motivation levels high and minimizes the frustration that can occur when your big picture Goal seems out of reach.


Passion is the Fuel that drives consistent effort.


Consistent effort is one of the keys to achieving the Goals that you set.


When you learn to find joy in the Process of overcoming small daily challenges, it helps you stay fully committed to your long-term Goal achievement Process.


When you Celebrate these daily achievements, no matter how small, the positive reinforcement will transform your approach to Goal achievement.


Helpful Hint: Find Your Autotelic Actions



Finding your personal Autotelic Actions is a big key to experiencing joy and maximizing your engagement in the Process of pursuing your Goal.


Autotelic actions are actions that you love experiencing… no matter the result that the action produces.


  • The flight of a well-shaped golf shot

  • The feel of a ski arcing in the snow

  • The sound of a purely struck tennis shot

  • The joy of playing with a friend


Autotelic Actions are also a powerful Trigger for Accessing The Zone.


Consider activities that naturally make you lose track of time, like playing a musical instrument, painting, or engaging in a favorite sport.


These actions trigger positive emotions and reduce the frustration of slow progress by focusing on the joy of the activity itself.


This concept is rooted in mindfulness, where the focus is on the present rather than the outcome.


Identify what these actions are for you, integrate them into your routine, and they will help you fully enjoy the journey to your Goal.
